Pilot for Reporting Illicit Drug Reactions to be discontinued

Public Health England (PHE) have decided to close the 2017 Reporting Illicit Drug Reactions (RIDR) pilot programme by 28 February 2020.

In collaboration with the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), PHE had been piloting a national system for reporting the unexpected or severe adverse effects of illicit drugs since March 2017. Unfortunately, the volume of reports remained low despite efforts to focus on a wider audience.

The RIDR site was closed from 10 January 2020. Copies of reports made prior to this are available for download before the website ultimate closure on 28 Febraury 2020. After this, the website will be archived under the UK Government Web Archive.

Healthcare professionals can continue to report illicit drug reactions into their local alert system or to the national PHE drugs alert via Drug.Alerts@phe.gov.uk. Suspected adverse drug reactions to licensed medicines should continue to be reported through the Yellow Card Scheme.
