PIC outlines key priorities for the next two years

At their meeting last month, the Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme (PIC/S) reviewed their strategic plan and confirmed a number of priorities for the next two years.

Training is PIC/S’ primary focus. The PIC/S Inspectorates’ Academy (PIA) was successfully launched in July 2016 but the committee acknowledge that there is still much work to be done. Training of inspectors on the revised Annex 1 (on sterile manufacturing) of the PIC/S GMP Guide is being considered and evaluation of the effectiveness of PIC/S training events is to be introduced.

PIC/S will also work towards improved communication with Heads of Agencies and better co-operation with the International Coalition of Medicines Regulatory Authorities (ICMRA).

The harmonisation of GMP and GDP is a key goal for PIC/S, which the committee says should consider whether to strengthen its position in areas such as Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs), Veterinary Medicinal Products (VMPs), Investigational Medicinal Products (IMPs) or emerging technologies. Measurement of the use/implementation of guidance documents will be introduced and the project on a PIC/S Library, providing an index of GMP guidance resources from PIC/S Participating Authorities, will be completed.
